[Nicolye is attempting to protect his company, Advent, from competition, while defending his own position as Chairman.]
What a time for the Reserves to activate me! Not a bad thing in some ways... they increased my ranking and I'm flying for Vader's squadron now... so some weapons may become available for my upcoming personal vendetta. However, I'm trying to protect the people I have working for me, my position, my profit... and I don't get to spend time with her... not the ideal time for this. Horrible thing is they are running out of parts so they've stuck me with a piece of crap Tie Fighter to recertify in. Ah well, I've flown hunks of junk before... and I can always call Colin for backup. I'm sure he'd love to get some 'spare' parts... time to prepare... in more ways then one.0 comments
[Nicolye was given control of a company founded and run by a distant cousin, forcibly done through blackmail by his great-grandmother.]
I can't believe her.... she must be going daft! He isn't back prostrate before her explaining like some of us would be! Orphan or not he dosen't deserve such a rider in the deal... If I don't turn a profit in the specified time frame he gets it back. All of it, sole control of the company. Of course I'll be a manager in it, subserviant to the arrogant fart. He even sat in on an interview of somebody I recruited! Meddling arrogant incompetant.... If this was so important to him he should have made it work before Gran had to get involved.
I wish I had time to put him in his place, not that it'd help right now... he wouldn't listen... and I have bigger problems. We're getting setup... some of our competition has noticed. They got several of my employees arrested at the last Jam... Some excuse to do business without us overhearing. They got my people arrested... no harm done maybe in the short term... but they chose to play hardball... If I'm to keep my position I have to go to war.
Stupid meddling... They haven't seen someone meddle...0 comments
I've never had a problem listening to the cracks in the door... peering through keyholes. It's standard training for my line of work. I woke up when the comm crackled through my fuzzy brain... I'd slept on the sand under one of the arches in Kaadara... it was comfortable and there was no reason to waste more money... I wanted to waste it on her not me.
It was her voice on the comm... I'd told her she could order anything she wanted for breakfast... seems she wasn't kidding about the champagne and strawberries. She was munching on them with little sounds of pleasure, talking it over with the citizens of Vale. I just listened for awhile, enjoying that I'd succeeded in extending her thoughts of me past the time I was with her... I drifted back off to sleep eavesdropping... it's what I do.0 comments
[Nicolye lost a bet to J, a swoop race when they were taking on a rival smuggler gang, the loser had to pay for a posh night out, which means expensive to the Yanks in the audience.]
The setting was perfect. It was a tiny little restaurant, been there for years, the courtyard had a great view of the beach... with the loung chairs perfect for watching the waves in the moonlight. It also had a huge pricetag on every meal... certainly qualified as posh. I paid the manager to keep the courtyard for just our use... rented the whole place. I walked over to the hotel afterwards, I figured better safe then sorry... plus I wanted to impress... so I rented the Royal Suite... the one with the bed bigger then most small houses, and the pile of pillows as tall as I was. *blush* No I wasn't trying to get lucky... I just wanted not to have to fly her somewhere if I had been drinking.
Then I went to find clothes... not that I didn't want to show off my new armor, but this was suppossed to be a fancy date... a real one. And I've never welched on a bet. I found these gleaming white dress boots, perfectly fit, like a second skin.. and a black jacket, with an off the shoulder lapel... black dress slacks tailored for me, and an overstarched white shirt completed the ensemble. I must have checked my appearence in the mirror a hundred times before I picked her up.
She was absolutely stunning... stopped me in my tracks actually. She had gotten House Sibonay to create an off the shoulder gown... pink, offsetting the color of her hair perfectly. The skin of her shoulder was luminous... I'm not sure if it was the Dantooine sunlight, or maybe she bought some expensive girly stuff to bathe with.... whatever... it looked amazing, I wanted to touch it, hold her close, feel the curves that the dress was showing off so well... but I was still nervous... this was my first real date too.
She was facing away from me, I must have said something becuase she turned around... I restricted myself to kissing her cheek, which has become our standard greeting. I was rewarded with the hug I wanted for my paticence... maybe I held her a little too long, but she didn't seem to mind.
We left for Kaadara and the cafe... She was quite thrilled with the view, and the food... I think the fact the courtyard was all to ourselves might have been the thing that most got to her. She said I was sweet for doing it... I got a kiss on the lips for that. We ordered while I fingered the boxes in my pocket... the real gift.
It was an amazing meal... perfect in every way... I started by giving her the pearl... first of three... she knew what it was if not the significance. A pearl from a krayt, the rarest one I'd ever seen. The certificate of authority proved it, the only certified triple pearl find in a single dragon. I got my second quick kiss from that. The third quick kiss came when I handed her the custom dice made from the second of the triple pearl.... I told her then what she was getting from me, I wanted to tease her with the third pearl... I told her of the jeweler who made the lucky charm... wanted to increase her anticipation... and I wanted to make sure she joined me for a walk on the beach to see the sunrise.
I don't think I'll ever forget the details of that meal, the laughter, watching her eyes twinkle in the moonlight... course I don't remember much about what we discussed, because I was just enjoying the time with her, watching her be a girly girl. I do remember some things... I chose a great restaurant for her especially, turns out that one of her favorite holo's had been filmed there... little thing called 'Pettona Place'... she wanted to reenact the walk on the beach between the romantic leads after dinner... which was fine by me.
We grabbed a bottle of wine and walked on the beach, she said she liked the sand between her toes... when we stopped for a bit I slipped the third pearl round her neck... set in a lovely necklace... It was worth every penny, and the debt on top of it.
I took Colin's advice, much as I hate to admit it, and was a complete gentleman on her first date, walking her back to the hotel, giving her just one kiss, though it lasted awhile. And then headed back to the beach to sleep under the stars where we had just walked... Before I walked away I kinda told her I'd spoil her like this as much as I could if she wanted to be my girl.... I think I screwed it up... but this night was worth it... best night of my life.0 comments
It's done... he is going to take credit of course. But he released me from the blackmail he was holding over my head, I've attained a decent rank in the RSF for cover, and a decent rank in the Imperial reserves as well... All in all not a bad deal.
He took the droid and ran... off to his taskmasters. Of course I copied all the data to the secure backups, could be useful information in the future. I looked at his payment.... I think I can finally afford that posh dinner she's been asking for... perhaps an overnight stay in the suite for her. I can camp under the stars... she needs impressing... and I want to be the one to do it.0 comments
I don't understand how somebody loses 4 artifacts, and allows them to be split into 6 pieces. I've been trying to recover them for Boss Nass. He should have called us in way before this point. It's good our reputation as a company is spreading far enough to get contracts from Naboo.
If religion and sacredness means so little to these people it's not surprising they fight amongst themselves. More wars and private battles have been fought over this stuff then anything else. Well, except maybe women. Although I doubt that.
Don't get me wrong, I have my belief. And I have my faith.... I supposse that's why this war is being fought as well... and I thought I was different...0 comments
Another piece of the droid, another thug to track down... Borvo by name. I stopped by the Theed cantina and ran into an old friend, he asked what I'd been doing lately and as I told him about it he recommended I contact the local SpyNet operative... turns out they are hiring more varied skills for the traditional bounty hunter's organization. After a short interview they let me in, I'm now a liscenced bounty hunter... No different to me, I hunt for rare items, people can be the rarest of all. Off to track Borvo...
Of course the only flight I can get out of theed is to Kaadara, when I need to go to Moenia... and the only flight from Kaadara is over to Deeja Peak... I hate it when the shuttles don't run right...
Moenia is a fracking swamp, can't believe anybody chooses to live here, probably all scrabbling to make enough money to get out. I make sure my credstick is secure inside my new armor. I cut quite a good figure in it I think, makes me briefly think of my little smuggler girl and whether she will think so...
But that thought needs to leave as I enter the cantina... Borvo turns out to be a Hutt, and a better looking one then the current thug I have to work for. Jabba eats too much... Once I talk my way past his heavy security Borvo has no problem giving me the droid part I need. Well, giving is the wrong word. He wants me to test his security system and see if I retrieve it for him. He's even betting with Jabba about it... thinks I'll lose.
I was trained better than that though. Even his pet Rancor dosen't see me as I slip through like a ghost. Good thing I learned slicing from Colinye, the security system poses no problem... Borvo wasn't happy, but he didn't accost me as I left town either... any hunt you can walk away from... Nice to be in the field again, and doubly nice to get paid.0 comments
I finally tracked down that fracking Mouse droid. It'd been bought by a group of smugglers outside Kaadara on Naboo. It's a pretty little rural town, with a different armed group on almost every single farm plot outside the city limits. I saw Mummers, Beachcombers, Skaak Tippers, and Borvo's little group of armed hulligans. I masked myself as one of them, looking for work. I may be contracted to Naboo's RSF but I grew up learning to adapt myself to whatever situation nessecary for the work. None of them gave me more than the usual hassle they give to new recruits.
I made my way down to the storage facility and found the little droid taking inventory. A coulple of moments later I had extracted the chip. Piece of cake. Back to RSF to find the rest of this damn droid. I miss J. Maybe I should take a break and take her to that posh restaurant she wanted... but this payday would make that easier to swallow.0 comments
Another employee. Another day spent tracking down information. I'm glad the company is turning a profit, I'm glad we're getting work. I'm even happy that Colinye seems to be getting the word out in Amethyst Vale.
I'm not so happy with the job I've assigned myself. It's just not that much fun dialing my way through the information nets every day to track down these items. I'd much rather be in the field... finding the item in a little shop and arguing down the price... or taking it from more dangerous locales.
The field is where she shines anyway. I miss being able to work with her. She's better with a blaster than I am. But she rushes into situations without considering. She likes to drive fast... shoot fast... and spend money fast. She got a new speeder bike I heard... someone gave it to her...
Guess I need to keep info diving so I can top that gift... but if I figure out a way to make just as much money and work from the field...so I can watch her work...0 comments
I finally get my own position! I met Gran for the final time and she praised me for being so concientious in my studies and working under the restrictions she put on me. She handed me a whole company she acquired though I don't understand why she had to acquire it from a blood line of the clan.
Master Ineucelia isn't happy about it. Not at all. I don't know why he dosen't see that what I'm doing is really for the benefit of the bottom line. I don't know what he agreed to with Gran to retain his independence. Any other clan member would have been happy for the support and that he wasn't hanging his head before her. But he seems almost put out by my presence... He barely trusts me...
I've begun to hire employees after pushing through the paperwork for the Imperial red tape. It dosen't hurt that I serve in the reserves. Things weren't going quickly enough for Gran I guess because she sent my older brother to handle the shipping end of things. *grimace* It's fine I guess, I don't really like that end of things and Colin is great at it. He told me he's going to let me run the ground operations for the most part and has moved his office to Amethyst Vale. It's far enough from Dearic that I don't feel he's in the way. Besides the fact he's got an amazing decorator on staff and she's really improved our stature with the community over there. She's an interesting lady... part Dath, part Naboo...
Wonder if she knows the first agent I got to work for us was her sister... I doubt it... There's bad feelings there for the most part. J has been so sheltered that she jumped at the chance for a little luxury in her life. I'm hoping she thinks that I'm the guy who can provide it. First, she's a great agent, second she's cute... and I think I'm falling for her as much or more then she is for me. Now to make sure that doesn't get reported to Gran...0 comments
